Court extends detention of flotilla activist who bit prison guard, judge: better to deport her

The Magistrate's Court in Beer Sheva has again extended the detention of anti-Israeli activist Rice Rigo Serveia, a Spanish citizen who participated in the flotilla to Gaza and is suspected of assaulting a medical staff member. The activist's detention was extended by three days, despite police requesting a five-day extension. Simultaneously, the judge noted in his decision that "there may be great validity" in the claim made by Serveia's attorney that it would be better to deport her from Israel. Serveia is suspected of refusing to leave her cell at Ktziot Prison, where she was held with another flotilla activist, for medical examinations required before deportation. When a dental assistant working for the Israel Prison Service was asked to assist and tried to pull Serveia, she allegedly bit the assistant's left hand.
