David Tartakover, Israel Prize laureate for design, dies at 81

Artist David ("Tarta") Tartakover, Israel Prize laureate for design in 2002, has died at the age of 81. He was one of the most influential designers in the country and among the founders of Israeli television. The posters, logos, packaging, book covers and record sleeves he designed have already become landmarks in local memory, including the "Shalom" Independence Day poster (1978), considered a masterpiece in graphic design, and the symbol he created for "Peace Now" which is recognized as the first political sticker in Israel.
