Sudan: At least 1,000 killed in deadly landslide in western part of country

At least 1,000 people were killed in a deadly landslide that occurred on Sunday and destroyed a village in the Marra Mountains region in the western part of the country. This was announced by the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) which controls the area, adding that the landslide occurred after several days of heavy rain, and only one person survived in the completely destroyed village. The SLM has appealed to the UN and international aid agencies for assistance in recovering the victims' bodies.
