A suspect (54) who ran toward police officers armed with a knife in Bat Yam and was shot by them has been declared dead. The incident occurred after reports were received of a man rampaging and damaging vehicles. Police forces arrived at the scene and identified the suspect. At a certain point, he threatened them with a drawn knife and the officers, feeling endangered, opened fire at him. He was evacuated in critical condition to Wolfson Medical Center in Holon, where he died from his wounds. According to suspicion, the man was mentally ill. Police emphasized that the background to the incident is criminal.
