Major General (Res.) Eliezer Shkedi received an honorary doctorate from Ariel University for "his contribution to Israel's security and his work for Israeli society." In a statement issued by the university, it was noted that "Shkedi, the 15th commander of the Israeli Air Force and former CEO of El Al, participated in and led numerous operations, both public and classified, during his service in the Air Force. As commander of the Air Force, he led the 2007 effort to counter and destroy Syria's nuclear capability and nuclear reactor. Shkedi initiated and deepened the connection and involvement of the Air Force with Israeli society in all its diversity, addressing social, educational and value-based issues."
