French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot called for "free and independent entry of journalists" into the Gaza Strip, aiming "to show what is happening there." In an interview with French radio, he was asked about the situation of several AFP news agency employees in the area, who according to the agency are in a "terrible situation," to which he replied that "we hope to succeed in evacuating some journalist colleagues in the coming weeks."
