The United States, Egypt and Qatar, which are mediating the talks between Israel and Hamas to end the war in the Gaza Strip, estimate that the terrorist organization will deliver its response to the latest deal proposal within the next day. Against the backdrop of conflicting reports regarding progress in negotiations, Israeli officials claim that "there isn't really any progress" and that "the issue of criteria for prisoner releases hasn't been discussed yet." The Israeli delegation is still in Doha, but Israeli sources say they "aren't aware that Hamas is supposed to respond within the next day," and in any case there is still no indication that the U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Whitcoff, will arrive in Qatar.
