Barcelona mayor denied entry to Israel

Roy Rubinstein|
The Population and Immigration Authority of the Interior Ministry announced that Barcelona Mayor Jaume Collboni, who was scheduled to land in Israel around midnight tonight, has been denied entry to the country. The Interior Ministry stated: "The refusal is in accordance with the Entry to Israel Law and in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Security Council." The denial comes following several recent statements by the mayor against Israel, and after the city council passed a resolution in May to "sever ties with Israel." Collboni had planned to visit Yad Vashem and the Palestinian Authority.
