Renowned Japanese avant-garde artist Yayoi Kusama has died at the age of 97, the Kyodo news agency reported. Years ago, she checked herself into a psychiatric hospital and continued creating from there, and was considered one of the most famous and successful artists in the world. She was a prominent figure in contemporary art and worked in several fields, including painting, sculpture and installations that incorporate movement and visual media. Among the artists she influenced was Andy Warhol.
