Ronen Bar: Supreme Court hearing not about my personal matter, but independence of future Shin Bet chiefs

Itamar Eichner|
After announcing his resignation effective June 15, 2025, Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar said, 'This is an organization whose proper functioning is invaluable to state security and Israeli democracy. Over the past month, I have fought for this, and this week all necessary documentation was submitted to the Supreme Court. I hope the ruling will ensure the Shin Bet remains as such, long-term and without fear. The court hearing does not concern my personal matter, but rather the independence of future Shin Bet chiefs, and I am certainly ready to appear for any proceeding the court may require for this purpose going forward.'
