IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir held a discussion on staff work to expand the implementation of additional service commitment for combat soldiers in special units. According to the IDF spokesperson, who added that the discussion clarified this is not a decision to extend service for all combat soldiers, nor an extension of mandatory service for soldiers in the discussed units, but rather the completion of an additional service period (one year of career service) that these combat soldiers commit to in advance, as customary in these special units. After an initial examination of the issue, the Chief of Staff decided to completely freeze the implementation of the staff work, and directed that no soldier would be required to serve beyond what they committed to when joining the program.
