Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement to the media calling for a unity government. He said, "This is the will of the people, and this is the need of the hour. A government that depends on Hamas supporters will not fight Hamas, a government that depends on haters of Judaism will not preserve Israel as a Jewish state. Such a government that depends on Islamists will dismantle the State of Israel from within, as is happening in European countries. With such a government, Israel simply will not survive and therefore there is only one choice - not national suicide, but national unity. I call for the establishment of a national unity government that will include all parties of the national camp and all Zionist parties."
