Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar has decided to bring 12 ambassadorial appointments abroad for approval by the ministry's appointments committee — in the midst of an election campaign — most of whom will begin their tenures only in the summer of 2027, Ynet has learned. While these are professional appointments of diplomats and not political appointments that are prohibited during election periods, employees and senior officials at the Foreign Ministry say that "this looks bad and smells like a power grab before the elections." The appointments include Israeli ambassadors to India, Jordan, Canada, Austria, Bulgaria, Denmark, Switzerland, Paraguay, Rwanda, Ghana and Belarus, as well as a consul general in Munich. In Delhi, the appointment is immediate in November 2026.
