At 12:00 PM on October 7, 2023, after hundreds of wounded were evacuated to Soroka Medical Center, the hospital's blood bank had zero units of type O blood and only a few units in the trauma room. Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon reached a similar situation. This emerges from the State Comptroller's report on the national blood supply system. The report reveals that the Health Ministry, the Supreme Authority for Hospitalization and Health, and the National Health Emergency Command Center 'were completely unaware of the problems that arose on October 7 at Soroka and Barzilai' — and finds serious failures that continue to this day.
