In the wake of widespread protests against Israel's participation in Eurovision and its second-place finish in the last contest, the European Broadcasting Union announced several new rules, including one stating that a country that wins but faces a security threat or geopolitical conflict will lose the automatic right to host the following year. The rule is aimed at Israel and Ukraine. Another rule stipulates that the age of contestants will be raised to 18, instead of 16 as previously allowed.
