Netanyahu opposes arrest of ultra-Orthodox draft dodgers: 'This is unacceptable'

|
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke out against the arrest of ultra-Orthodox draft dodgers, saying 'this is unacceptable.' In an interview with Kol Berama radio, Netanyahu said: 'We must preserve the world of Torah because it has preserved us. These arrests are a deliberate attempt to harm the process of enlisting the ultra-Orthodox without coercion.' Netanyahu added: 'I greatly respect the world of Torah, but those who are not studying should go enlist.' Regarding the ultra-Orthodox parties' conditions for passing a conscription law before the swearing-in of the government, he said: 'I wish we could do that. I know that many in the ultra-Orthodox public understand that there needs to be a new distribution of the burden.'
