David Rokni, legendary Independence Day torch-lighting ceremony commander, dies at 94

Reserve Lt. Col. David Rokni, who served as commander of the torch-lighting ceremony on Mount Herzl on Independence Day from 1983 to 2016, has died at the age of 94. Rokni served in the Golani Brigade for 35 years in training and instruction roles and was a sergeant major at Training Base 11 in the 1970s. During his military service, he was appointed commander of the torch-lighting ceremony and for this purpose was granted an officer's rank and was called up for reserve duty every year.
