Under U.S. pressure: Allenby Bridge to reopen, 3 months after attack by Jordanian militant

|
Almost three months after it was closed following an attack in which Lt. Col. (res.) Yitzhak Harosh and Sgt. Oren Hershko were murdered, a security source updated that the Allenby Bridge crossing will reopen tomorrow under government directive - after the U.S. applied pressure on the issue - for the transfer of goods and aid from Jordan to Judea and Samaria and the Gaza Strip. According to the security source, in recent weeks the necessary security adjustments were made at the crossing, both on the Israeli side and on the Jordanian side, and the security screening and identification procedures for Jordanian drivers and truck contents were tightened. Political sources claimed that "the Jordanians made the security changes we demanded - and beyond. They have greatly intensified the screening and have taken it very seriously. Every truck that enters will be escorted and will undergo rigorous inspection."
