The United States announced it will extend visa sanctions against senior Palestinian Authority and PLO officials, after the State Department determined they continue to fail to meet their commitments to Washington. The State Department statement claimed, among other things, that the PA and PLO are working to advance measures against Israel at the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice in The Hague; seeking to promote unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state; and continuing payments to terrorists and 'glorification of terror.' At the same time, it was clarified that the existing exemption for members of the permanent Palestinian mission to the UN will remain in effect. The announcement was published concurrently with the rejection of the visa application of PA Chairman Abu Mazen, who will not be permitted to travel to New York for his speech at the General Assembly next week.
