IDF: Committee to examine recognition of soldiers who died by suicide outside service

Head of the IDF Personnel Directorate, Major General Dado Bar Kalifa, in coordination with Defense Minister Israel Katz and IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, has ordered the establishment of a committee to examine the support provided to discharged soldiers and reserve personnel not in active service who died by suicide following their military service, in light of the unique circumstances of this period. This was announced by the IDF Spokesperson, who noted that the committee will be headed by former Personnel Directorate chief, Reserve Major General Moti Almoz. According to the statement, the committee will examine systemic, ethical and socio-national aspects related to how IDF personnel cope after their discharge, including the issue of recognition and assistance for service members, including the legal implications regarding their recognition.
