The Health Ministry has published a list of national goals detailing how many specialists will be needed in each field by 2035, and how they should be distributed across the country's regions. Over the next decade, the number of specialist physicians in Israel is expected to grow by more than 11,000. For the first time, the Health Ministry has determined where this addition should go: in which specialties, and in which region. The rate of specialists in oncology, radiology and psychiatry in the North and South currently stands at less than half the target. The Health Ministry stated: "Without national planning, gaps between specialties and between regions may persist and even widen."
