The Houthis announced the appointment of Yousef al-Madani as the new chief of staff of their militia after confirming the death of the previous chief, Abd al-Karim al-Ghamari, who was attacked by Israel in August. Al-Madani is among the senior military commanders of the Houthi organization, and his name has been associated with various fighting fronts of the group. He was placed on the Security Council sanctions list due to "his activities and support for actions threatening the well-being, security and stability of Yemen." Previously, it was reported that he served as a liaison between the Houthis, Hezbollah and Iran's Revolutionary Guards, and was responsible for bringing experts from terrorist organizations to Yemen.
