The health system is preparing for the return of hostages from Hamas captivity in the Gaza Strip. The returnees are expected to be admitted to Ichilov, Sheba and Beilinson hospitals. Meanwhile, Soroka and Barzilai hospitals will continue to serve as emergency destinations for severe and extreme cases. Dr. Hagar Mizrahi, head of the Medical Division at the Ministry of Health, said that "in light of the time that has passed and the difficult images we've seen, we are preparing with monitoring equipment in the departments beyond what is required in a standard department." Additionally, due to concerns about refeeding syndrome, a protocol was transferred several weeks ago to Red Cross representatives, with the thought that it might be passed to Hamas, "hoping they won't endanger those held there in an attempt to feed them," Dr. Mizrahi explained. According to her, "this is based on past experience of immediate feeding of hostages before their transfer, and this is one of our concerns that damage could occur in the final moments."
