In the wake of new American sanctions on Iran, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi wrote on X that "Iran has so far kept its word, unlike the U.S. Treasury Secretary who is violating Article 9 of the Memorandum of Understanding. This violation follows other U.S. violations and mistakes. Reality check: there can only be mutual compliance." According to Article 9 of the memorandum, "Until the final agreement, the U.S. and Iran agree to maintain the status quo. Iran will maintain the current status quo of its nuclear program, and the U.S. will not impose new sanctions or deploy additional forces in the region."
