Canada, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and Italy issued a joint statement expressing concern about the confrontation between Israel and Lebanon. "We are concerned about the escalating violence between Israel and Lebanon and call on the parties to engage in contacts for a sustainable diplomatic solution. A large-scale ground maneuver by Israel must be avoided, as it carries devastating and prolonged consequences," the statement said.
