Thousands of demonstrators gathered outside the American Embassy in Havana to protest the decision to file an indictment against former Cuban leader Raul Castro. The charges against Castro, 94, brother of Fidel Castro, relate to his alleged involvement in the downing of two aircraft belonging to the humanitarian organization Brothers to the Rescue in 1996. Four people, three of them Americans, were killed when two Cuban MiG fighter jets attacked the planes in international airspace while Castro was defense minister. The announcement of the indictment was made at a press conference in Miami during a memorial ceremony for the victims.
