Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa criticized Israel's policy toward his country during a conversation at the Atlantic Council in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. "What happened on October 7 should not dictate Israeli policy toward Syria. It is not logical, and it creates additional security threats," he said. According to him, "If you want to protect your security, you must respect the security of others." Al-Sharaa claimed that Israel "creates problems around it to maintain its security - and it doesn't work." He also said that Israel attacked the presidential palace and airports in Syria twice, and wondered: "Does this bring security to Israeli citizens?" According to him, "Our relations with the U.S., Britain and Lebanon are successful. I believe the problem is with Israel, not Syria."
