The Iraqi government has decided to classify Hezbollah and the Houthi rebels as terrorist organizations. This was reported by local media, some of which noted that the decision is "unprecedented." The government determined that all banks, financial bodies and relevant authorities must freeze assets and prevent financial transactions with the organizations mentioned in the publication, directly or indirectly, until another decision is made. Iraqi reports also indicated that the move was made in part to meet Iraq's international commitments regarding the fight against terrorism and drying up its revenues.
