The World Health Organization no longer classifies the monkeypox (mpox) outbreak as an international health emergency. This was announced by the organization's director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who clarified that "removing the emergency declaration does not mean the threat is over." The mpox virus originated in Africa, began to emerge in its new form in early 2024 in Congo and neighboring countries, and in August last year the World Health Organization declared a public health emergency.
