President Isaac Herzog opened the national memorial day for the events of October 7, 2023, by lowering the Israeli flag to half-staff at the plaza of the President's Residence. The President's Residence stated that the lowering of the flag expresses the shared national mourning of the State of Israel and its citizens, and is dedicated to the memory of the women and men, children, toddlers, the elderly, civilians and soldiers who were murdered and fell in the terror attack on October 7, 2023, and in the 'Iron Swords' war. 'Alongside their memory, this day is also dedicated to saluting all those who were injured in body and soul and bear the wounds of October 7 and the war even in these days,' it was written.
