Berlin: BND chief had documents on Iranian nuclear program, probe examines if he passed intel to China and Russia

|
Germany's Bild newspaper revealed additional details about the arrest of August Hanning, former head of the Federal Intelligence Service (BND), Germany's counterpart to Israel's Mossad. The investigation began with suspicion he was involved in an attempted kidnapping of the children of Christina Block, in which former Mossad operatives were also reportedly involved. During the investigation, it emerged that information was allegedly leaked from the BND, and a search of his home last year uncovered a storage device containing classified information. Meanwhile, authorities are examining whether Hanning passed information to China and Russia, with whom he maintained direct contacts, and highly sensitive documents were found in his possession regarding the Iranian nuclear program and the Russian military.
