Lt. Col. (res.) Tzuri Sagi, one of the senior commanders in the Paratroopers Brigade and the man known for leading Kurdish rebels to historic victories over the Iraqi army, has died at the age of 92. Sagi, born in Herzliya and raised in Moshav Ein Vered, left behind a long legacy of combat service in the IDF, starting with the retaliatory operations of the 1950s, through the Yom Kippur War and covert missions overseas. When sent to Kurdistan to assist the rebels in their war against the Iraqi regime, Sagi developed a dedicated combat doctrine suited to their character, extensively trained snipers and even trained in Israel, in the Daliyat al-Carmel area, a reserve of two assault battalions. Sagi is survived by his wife, Tzipa, and only son Yair, who worked as a photojournalist at Ynet and Yedioth Ahronoth for many years.
