The defense establishment has shelved plans to call up reserves for a large-scale evacuation, which would have been the largest since October 7, after significant uncertainty regarding northern front operations that had been planned for the coming weeks. The evacuation would have included reserve Home Front Command soldiers and other reservists. This follows what was described as the most significant call-up since the early months of the war, when the IDF planned to evacuate civilians from conflict zones.
Fewer than 100 reservists who had already been called up for the operation were sent home. The scope of forces planned for the operation would have been similar to the evacuation from areas surrounding Gaza on October 7. Recently, the IDF has implemented shorter training periods for northern front reserve troops, which were originally planned to last 30 days.
