Romania considers canceling deal to purchase drones from Israel worth hundreds of millions of dollars

|
Romania is examining the possibility of canceling a deal to purchase Watchkeeper X drones worth more than $400 million from Elbit Systems due to delivery delays and the impact of the war. Romanian Defense Minister Radu Mirocea confirmed that his ministry is legally analyzing the option to cancel the agreement. According to him, the longer the delay continues, the systems may lose their operational relevance. Elbit claimed the delays stem from the fighting in Gaza and submitted, according to the Romanians, three requests to recognize the delay under 'force majeure.' The first two requests were approved, but a third request was rejected. According to Minister Mirocea, the penalties accumulated so far against the company amount to approximately 60 million euros.
