During a traditional carnival held in the parish of Encamp in Andorra, a tiny principality nestled between France and Spain that holds a seat at the UN, an effigy representing the State of Israel was put on public 'trial,' shot and set on fire before an audience. The event, which was part of the local carnival's traditional ceremonies, drew sharp criticism for allegedly containing overtly antisemitic elements and offending the feelings of the country's small Jewish community. The mayor and council members attended the event. The effigy was large, painted in blue and white with a Star of David on its face. At the end of the trial, the effigy, which depicted the State of Israel, was 'executed' at the stake with gunfire and then set ablaze.
