Photos, videos, documents and communications intercepted by a Middle Eastern intelligence agency describe a secret Sudanese military unit that manufactured chlorine-based ammunition for use against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia fighting for control of the country. This was reported by The New York Times, which described how Sudan's army developed and produced chemical weapons for about six months in 2024. The documents collected on the matter include drawings of bombs and details about the attempt to conceal the project after it was discovered by the United States. In addition, there was suspicion that some of the chlorine used to manufacture the bombs came from a civilian water purification center that received the chemicals from international aid groups.
