The United States Department of State approved the sale of four KC-46A aerial refueling aircraft and related military equipment to Qatar valued at $4.5 billion. A State Department statement said the deal will improve Qatar's ability to counter "current and future threats" and enhance cooperation with U.S. forces and its allies. The Americans clarified that the deal "will not alter the basic military balance in the region" and emphasized it is intended to "improve the security of a strategic regional partner that is an important force for political stability and economic progress in the Middle East."
