Professor Zelig Eshhar, pioneer of immunotherapy research in Israel, passes away

Israel Prize laureate Professor Zelig Eshhar, who headed immunological research at Ichilov Hospital and pioneered immunotherapy in Israel, has passed away at 84. He is survived by three children and grandchildren. Eshhar was Professor Emeritus at the Department of Immunology at the Weizmann Institute of Science and received the Israel Prize in Life Sciences in 2015. He was also an expert in genetic engineering of T cells and was among the founders of the clinical application of CAR-T technology that works against cancer cells.
