A fossilized skull found in northeastern China belonged to a new species of prehistoric human that was not previously known to science, known as the homo longi, or "dragon man", a new study published in The Innovation journal revealed Friday.
According to researchers, this species is closer to modern humans, or homo sapiens, than Neanderthals.
The skull that was found belonged to a man who lived 146,000 years ago and had large eye sockets, a thicker forehead, a wide mouth and large teeth, and his brain was the same size as that of modern humans.
