Democratic U.S. Senator Ron Weyden told The Guardian on Tuesday that he was investigating whether foreigners had spied on American citizens with technology from Israeli cyber company NSO and other companies.
His remarks come just weeks after Whatsapp filed a lawsuit against NSO, claiming it was behind a breach of 1,4000 users' accounts.
He added that the issue raises "serious questions" about national security, but did not address the lawsuit filed by Whatsapp.
