Over AG opposition, cabinet okays probe of police internal investigation dept.

The cabinet on Sunday approved a committee of inquiry into the Israel Police internal investigations department, despite opposition by Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit.
MK Gadi Yevarkan, who has moved from the Blue & White party to Likud, said the inquiry was promised by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in return for his allegiance.
While Mandelblit said that this was an unlawful election pledge, the cabinet approved the move.
