Australia: Law restricting social media use from age 16 takes effect

|
Millions of children and teenagers in Australia have lost access to their social media accounts following a law that has come into effect in the country limiting their use from age 16. This is a precedent-setting law aimed at protecting children and teenagers from the addictive features of social media, online bullying and sexual predators who use these networks to find victims. Australia is the first country to implement such a restriction. Among the platforms that have been blocked are Instagram, Facebook, Threads, Snapchat, YouTube, TikTok, X, Reddit and more.
