Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has appointed Brig. Gen. Avi Gil as his military secretary, after consultations with Defense Minister Benny Gantz and on the recommendation of IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi.

  • Gil will also be promoted to the rank of Major General as part of his new appointment, in order to strengthen his position when liaising with the security bodies that work directly with the Prime Minister.

    Gil began his military career in the Paratroopers Brigade. He later commanded the Paratroopers patrol battalion and the Duvdevan Commando Unit during the Second Intifada.
    During the 2014 Gaza war, Gil commanded the prominent officer military training base known as Bahad 1.

    Gil was then promoted to the rank of brigadier general and appointed commander of the 340th Reservist Division, as well as the chief of the military’s course for company and battalion commanders.
    Later he was appointed as the commander of Northern Command’s 35th armored infantry Division. In 2020 he was appointed as the chief of the body responsible for formulating the IDF’s military and warfare doctrines.
