U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday described the Gaza Strip as “a tremendous piece of real estate” and said the U.S. plans to take control of the territory.
“It’s a great place. I don’t understand why Israel gave it up,” he said in remarks from the White House.
Trump added that “many countries” are willing to take in Gaza residents and proposed turning the area into a “free zone.”
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, speaking alongside Trump, said: “People should have freedom of choice. Some countries are ready to receive Gazans and are responding to the president’s vision.”
