U.S. President Donald Trump said he plans to discuss trade issues with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during their upcoming meeting in Washington.
Speaking ahead of the scheduled talks, Trump noted that trade between the United States and Israel would be a key topic on the agenda. The meeting is expected to take place during Netanyahu's two-day visit to the U.S. capital, which also includes talks with senior American officials.
The visit comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, economic uncertainty and diplomatic efforts surrounding Israel’s ongoing war with Hamas. In recent days, new tariffs imposed by the U.S. have added pressure to bilateral trade relations, prompting calls for negotiation and review.
Netanyahu and Trump have maintained a long-standing relationship, with the Israeli leader being the first foreign official to meet Trump both following his return to the White House and after the imposition of his weeping tariff regime. Their discussions are likely to touch on a range of strategic issues beyond trade, including regional security, the Iranian threat and U.S.-Israel cooperation.
