Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara submitted a statement to the court regarding petitions dealing with the enlistment of ultra-Orthodox men. The statement includes details of economic and civil measures that, according to professional opinions, are effective tools whose implementation is expected to contribute significantly to the fight against draft evasion from the IDF. Among the measures detailed in her statement: economic and civil benefits that will be denied to those required to enlist who have not regularized their status with the military and do not require legislation, such as discounts on public transportation, participation in 'subsidized housing' and 'target price' tenders, and daycare subsidies. In her statement, the attorney general also addressed the late-night legislative maneuver in the Knesset, in which hundreds of millions were approved for the ultra-Orthodox through a channel that bypasses her directive. She announced that she has instructed that the funds transferred by the coalition not be used for indirect financing of draft dodgers.
