A New York court sentenced Yahya Amin, a 28-year-old Queens resident, to only 90 days in jail and five years of probation for attacking a 23-year-old Israeli near Times Square on October 18, 2023. As part of a plea deal, he was convicted of third-degree assault constituting a hate crime. According to the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, the defendant followed a group of young men wearing yarmulkes, played 'Hamas music' for them and after telling them 'I want to kill you for Gaza,' struck one of the young men in the head. They chased after him until the New York Police Department joined in and arrested him.
