The Israeli Ministry of Defense and the U.S. Pentagon have signed a deal to purchase 12 advanced Apache helicopters for the IDF, manufactured by American company Boeing. The helicopters, which will be delivered in the early part of the next decade, are the 'Echo' model - the newest and most advanced version of the helicopter. The deal was adapted through a combined Israeli-American effort to meet Israel's needs and the complex budgetary constraints it is currently facing. The formulation of the deal and the budgetary framework for its implementation were led by the Ministry of Defense delegation in the U.S. and the Budget Department at the Ministry. The Director General of the Ministry of Defense, Major General (Ret.) Emir Baram, instructed the Ministry's delegation in the U.S. to sign the deal, following government approval and after several delays due to budget gaps.
