Ahmad Mohammad (24) from Hawara, who was charged with spitting on a female officer on a bus in Ramat Gan, was released to house arrest despite police objections. Judge Benjamin Hirshel-Doron explained: 'After weighing arguments from both sides, I believe that despite the feeling of revulsion I have toward the respondent's actions, I find it difficult to conclude that he poses a danger requiring detention until the end of proceedings.' Mohammad's public defender complained at the start of the hearing that the suspect was beaten during his arrest, and the judge ordered an investigation into the complaint. The indictment charges him with assaulting a public servant and illegal residency.
