Three people were killed and at least 15 injured due to a crowd surge at a popular Hindu festival at a temple in the eastern Indian city of Puri. Local authorities reported that "there was a sudden surge of devotees who got a glimpse of the Hindu deities, during which some people fainted, felt suffocated or complained of shortness of breath." A senior official in Odisha state said "there was no government mechanism to manage the surging crowd, it's shocking negligence."
